Secretary Joyce Willecombe (Nancy Olson) witnesses suspicious behavior aboard a train bound for Chicago's Union Station and notifies the authorities. With Joyce's help, a railway inspector (Barry Fitzgerald) and an initially skeptical police detective (William Holden) uncover the details of what turns out to be a devious kidnapping plot and struggle to rescue its victim -- Lorna Murchison (Allene Roberts), the blind daughter of Joyce's well-to-do employer, Henry.
